The musician's read
Flat Rock Cinema is a live-music option with a character of its own. The directory says: "Your Locally Owned Cinema featuring great food, wine, local brews, First run films, and LIVE Music." They host live music on Wednesday nights a couple of times a month. A working band should read that information as the start of the job. Consider the crowd, the time slot, and the venue’s basic reason for existing, then build a set that makes the night better rather than merely louder. Get to the first real song quickly, give the energy somewhere to go, and let the performance have a sense of humor. Every room has its own internal bureaucracy; the songs are still allowed to win. Confirm booking process, production, house engineer, PA, inputs, microphones, monitors, backline, power, stage or floor position, load-in, parking, soundcheck, set times, breaks, curfew, food, hospitality, ticketing, merchandise, payment, and settlement before signing up. Directory details can age faster than a flyer taped to a telephone pole. Pitch the date with footage, availability, musical fit, realistic draw, and a clean technical outline. Bring a manageable rig and the professional instincts that cause a venue to ask you back, which beats being remembered as the band that needed three extension cords and an apology.
